Waxing is a great way to remove unwanted hair and slow down its regrowth, but you can’t make waxing a quick decision. There are a few things you should do first to prepare your skin for waxing, both to get the best result and to prevent additional discomfort.
Check yourself over first — Waxing should be avoided if you have any cracked skin or unhealed wounds. Also, make sure to tell us if you have any beauty marks or moles so we can protect them during the procedure.
You need to let your hair grow (a little) — If your hair is too short the wax will not be able to adhere to it correctly and you will get a less than perfect waxing. If it is too long it can be more uncomfortable for you. You should come for your waxing when your hair is about one-eighth of an inch long.
A light exfoliation is helpful — Don’t scrub the day of your appointment but rather one day before you are coming to Colibri Day Spa and Beauty Shop. A very light scrub with a washcloth is plenty to help the wax stick to your hair rather than your skin. Don’t scrub too hard as this will make your skin more sensitive and can cause more discomfort during the waxing.
Moisturize — Keep your skin well moisturized up to the day of your appointment. This will allow the wax to release more easily from your skin. But don’t use a moisturizer on your appointment day as this reduces the effectiveness of the wax.
Clean your skin carefully before you come — This is especially important if you are getting a bikini wax because that area of your body remains warm and damp after waxing. Waxing can make your skin more susceptible to infections, so cleaning carefully before and after the waxing is very important.
Avoid certain medications — Retinol-based medications can make your skin more susceptible to injury, so stop using them for two weeks before waxing. Avoid Accutane use for one month before any waxing. You should always discuss this with your physician before stopping any prescription medications.
